If you are not a sheep, if you've faced down danger in your past with gumption and resolve, having come out on top: stand strong and proud. You are one of few in this city.

Tell me, how exactly would your family react in a situation like this? Would they grab their firearm or closest weapon and run in the opposite direction of the people running to confront the danger head on? If you saw a burning building, would you face down the danger and run into the building to put it out?
Do you not realize how ridiculous that sounds? If there were reports of a gunman shooting at the AT&T stadium in Dallas, the same thing would happen. Civilians would stampede to safety while TRAINED officers would rush to the scene. It has nothing to do with it being NY.
The only reason you and I are here this very moment is because our ancestors long ago realized that society was more productive when each individual specialized to a specific talent. Not every person is going to be a warrior that faces down danger at every turn. Issac Newton was a "nancy" boy that got beat up constantly in the school yard, yet he has done more for the human race than any weapon or warrior has ever done.
You generalize NY'ers in the same way some people generalize cops. Because some hate cops, doesn't mean everyone does. But there's a huge difference, cop's are in a position of power and can easily detrimentally affect the life of the average NY'er depending on their prejudices and bias. The average NYer has no impact on the life of a cop. Nationwide, 144 officers died last year on the line of duty, from a multitude of causes. Not one of them because of your average citizen. Gangs and Criminals have always hated cops, the ones that live NY are no different or special.
There are valid criticisms of the systematic problems with police departments nationwide. Take for example the fact that white people commit and abuse drugs just as much as black people, yet the overwhelming majority of people arrested for drug related crimes are black. However, people like you seem to think that every officer and department is perfect and that any criticisms is nothing more than liberal hatred.
