It doesn't get more hipster than that!

I'm about to make a thread about this actually, if anything I would wager that most actual hipsters in NYC are New York born.

Not really. Top universities in the US barred women and non whites until the 1960s. This isn't laissez faire. Protectionists believe they are in entitled to something simply because they are white americans, and don't want competition from foreign markets or non immigrants in the US for that matter.

That type of conservative had no problem when people were barred from doing certain things because of race or gender, but hated it when the government passed laws making such behavior illegal. They aren't interested in free trade, and in fact rapid development in so called developing nations is a threat to their white supremacist world view (in many ways white privilege is overblown these days, anyone of any race can be successful).
