Even the projects over in Europe, with their welfare net, have severe issues with unemployment and social alienation. Mixed income communities/accommodating gentrification are going to be the way forward for affordable housing in the future. No city in history was ever successful being comprised exclusively of the poor.

I don't think that was ever not the case in NYC. People act like NY was some red-state paradise simply for electing Guliani. it's more conservative now in many ways than during much of the 20th century. Guliani was elected because of out of control crime, not for his social views. Even here in 2017 if we went back to graffiti on the trains, kids wilding in Bryant Park in broad daylight, tourists being stabbed to death in Midtown (Brian Watkins), rampant mugging, 1500+ homicides etc we'd be right back to having a law and order mayor again.

Those are very good points you bring up. I'm not sure what the anti-gentrification activists want, and the fact we already have so much subsidized housing might be why the price floor for market rate stuff is so damn high. 1300 to live in poorest neighborhoods seems odd.

Some of them are out of touch and seem to be inventing things to get mad about. For instance, I sww a picture of protestors protesting "SoHa", but the reality is that hipsters moving there would never use such a name. The only people trying to push those stupid names are the real estate companies, and we already have stupid names like Tribeca that nobody complains about.

And although Giuliani is buddy buddy with Trump nowadays, he was not a hardcore right winger as mayor and NYC was a sanctuary city back then as well.

The fact that we continue to vote Democrat just shows how pathetic the GOP is. Stop a minute to think of that. If you think that Trump is great then that just shows the extent of your problem.

Speaking to the wrong man. IMHO Asians are even worse than whites in their racism towards blacks. Some light skinned Hispanics too.

So this "I am a minority" really might mean that you are trying to be loved by whites so adapt an anti black attitude.

I wouldn't say Asians (at least the US born ones) are worse than whites in that regard.

And those indifferent about DeBlasio will still support him against some GOP candidate who thinks that Giuliani and Trump are heroes. I suggest people like that go run in Suffolk country because that is where those with that mindset now live.

Cannot speak for now but I remember when Sharpton met Italian protesters in Bensonhurst in the late 80s many Southerners thought that this was internal battle among "N" word. They would describe the Italians as "Sand N (word)" as they would Arabs and Puerto Ricans.

And yes, your style of debating is bringing race into the forum. All the time. Its a disorder.
In fact I recall that you were the one who lambasted minorities for voting for the Democrats. That is bringing race into the discussion.

Its always interesting that when FOX News watching, Trump loving right wing lunatics bring in race it isn't about race until there is a response to their race baiting.

I'm having trouble understand the relevance of this who hates black people thing as it pertains to this thread. At the end of the day no one really cares. You look out for yourself.

East Asians, South Asians and Southeast Asians are of different makeups, culture, and tongue.
