Just wanted to share a link and support for this. I know this line where it is very well, I grew up near this abandoned line from 1975 to 2004. I am now in The Rockaway's which is transit starved. Yes we got NYC Ferry which is nice, but not enough ferry's for a growing population. Then you have The A-train which is slow as hell, I am on the west end of Rockaway so when in non-rush hour you have to take the shuttle to Broad Channel and transfer to the A, for a long ride to Manhattan. And if you don,t want the A train for residents on the West end, you could take the Q35 to Brooklyn and transfer at the junction for the 2/5 trains. Now with Rockaway Beach line the portion north of Liberty Avenue all the way to the connection with the LIRR or the Queens Blvd. line (IND) would be great and fast. I too support this line. De Blasio has said a final decision to reactivate the Rockaway Beach LIRR or to turn it into QueensWay will happen within months.
Are there really enough commuters in Rockaway to justify the expense of a new rail line?
Reactivating this line is not solely about commuters to the Rockaways. It's about giving people in the transit desert between Queens Blvd and the J train quick acces to Manhattan. The busses on Woodhaven Blvd are often bursting at the seems, and since NYC has no idea how to do grade separated Bus rapid transit properly, re-activating the rockaway line is the best decision

They are during peak travel periods. Considering the 4 main local busses on Woodhaven Blvd carry 10 million passengers and the Q53 alone is the 4th busiest buss in Queens, I think Woodhaven Blvd merits the Rockaway branch reactivation

The articles I've read justify try to justify the line for Rockaway commuters, not the people living between the J train and Queens Blvd at Woodhaven Blvd. If they make it part of the LIRR it would be very expensive for those residents to use rather than the subway (I think a peak LIRR fare within NYC is over $8.) If they make it a subway then the heavily used Queens Boulevard tunnels to Manhattan will have to somehow fit in more trains.

I disagree with this comment as I think it would help reduce traffic on the heavily used Queens Blvd. lines as people that wanted to go between those areas directly would have option to skip Manhattan.
