Upstate NY couldn't be more different culturally, and in terms of lifestyle. All one has to do is drive to the Northern Catskills, and the vibe feels more "Midwestern" than Southern tier of NY, who's voters influence policies statewide. An example of this would be the SAFE Act, which is necessary in NYC, Nassau and Suffolk, yet doesn't make much sense in rural areas.
