hello i am moving to arverne with my girlfriend plan to buy a home to start a family i was wondering if the area is safe? it is the only place i can realy afford a home in. she will have to take public transportation late at night to go home and to work. any information is appreciated!

From what I have seen, it's reasonably safe. A large number of new homes were built in recent years near the beach.

I lived there for a short while - a little over a year. I've never not felt safe HOWEVER when the A train is the fudging worst...

Use to go the the beach there often when I lived in queens.
Very undervalued area I always thought, but not for lack or reason. Amount of projects there just ruins the otherwise perfect beach setting. Its the curse of NYC housing legacy. Putting up projects near the best beach areas.
Lots of good areas with equally bad areas very near by.
