I try to do it near the curb by a tree etc not where people walk. Some of us have ENT/allergy issues etc and NYC is very polluted. I don't agree that this is an NYC thing but this is dense city with a lot of pedestrians so you are going to see it more inevitably.

Yeah, or spit in the sewer or down one of them sidewalk grates, I dont spit where people walk.

It's ubiquitous and has been since the Dutch "founded" the city.

Sometimes I wonder what bubble people live in mentally that they somehow don't pay attention to what is going on around them.

Are you saying that people actually DO spit on the sidewalk?


Back in the 50s and 60s in Baltimore, all spitting was in the gutter. I never saw anyone hock a loogie on the sidewalk.


Don't know if that's still the case. Haven't been in the city in 50 years.

People spit all over the sidewalks.

They spit in our buses and trains so a sidewalk surely wouldn't be off limits.
