Oh come on, now your going back to the 1860s when your admired white gentrifers owned slaves down south.

Guess what, when I was a kid we got chased by black kids all the time. You wouldn't understand, your not from around here, and didn't grow up around here during the pre-gentrification era.

And I'm not trying to downplay the negative effects of gentrification and I understand why people are frustrated, but I do think that hipsters are overly villified. These people are often into partying and doing drugs, so I doubt they're going to call the police for petty things like the anti-gentrification activists insinuate they do. And honestly, I think Brooklyn is better off with white people like that than the white people in South Brooklyn back in the day who used to chase black people.
I kind of agree, the issue is i belive gentrification comes in levels

The first level is the broke artist and musicians that are into party, and dont want to pay a lot of rent. they are very tolerant of the hoods quality of life issues and do not tend to call the cops for petty things.

after them come the better off hipsters that realized that they would not be shot on the spot as they see other white people there. those do call the cops for anything.

then come the bankers/suburban types and gentrify the hipsters out. come the helicopter moms and the stroller pushers.

Williambourg is almost free of real hipsters now, its just too expensive. the real hipsters are in bushwick.
you still see hipsters in WB but they might work there or just hang out there, some have old leases. but for the average new hipster its just too expensive now.

poor hipsters got gentrified by richer ones

I shouldn't generalize them as partiers, however I do genuinely believe that actual hipsters would not call the police over people selling drugs or blasting music. I know a lot of these people (I know I don't live in Brooklyn, but similar people exist here too and a lot of them have moved to Brooklyn since high school) and that's just my observation.

But the people considered to be gentrifiers spans from cokehead hipsters to wealthy yuppie types so I guess it varies.

I for sure call the cops if you sell drugs infront of my house. If you are confident that this is the line of work you want to be in that is fine. But, I would suggest you have your customers come to your apartment/house.

The long time residents are not ok with drug dealing and constant loud music. Occasional parties are fine.

You brought up events from the 1800s first.

That seems to be true for the most part! Although it seems like Bushwick is catching up to South Williamsburg in terms of rents.

That's understandable.

Sorry, but that looks like a gun and many people thought it was. I’m sure the family will try to sue the city for millions, but the fact is, the dude was bat **** crazy, pointing what looked like a gun at people and obviously wanted people to think it was a gun.

Dude, no gentrifier or anyone else is that old. It's not like 158 year old are gentrifying Brooklyn.
