There are consequences to SPEECH, period.
People can refuse to hire you or do business with your based on your reputation. A lawyer who has random outbursts on strangers in the restaurant shows his unfitness to practice law, and other attorneys are saying this finishes him in the profession and they were even surprised he bothered to show up to court.
One of his current clients wouldn't say whether he would continue to retain him. Probably not.
The man's life is destroyed, and he destroyed it by dumping his politics on random strangers.
But being that he had no proof this women were on welfare, and that there is no law against speaking other languages in the US, and even if they were on welfare it is none of his business as an absolute stranger to him, this man was a complete fool for saying this.
