My calculations didn't even include any corp taxes, just income taxes that these Amazon employees would've paid to the state and city.
Right, income tax paid to the State AND to the City. It's a huge windfall that we got screwed out of because of a small group of vocal obsessive compulsive neurotic NIMBYs
Had Amazon chosen somewhere a bit further out in Brooklyn/BK/Qns they would've had better chance not getting complaints. LIC here is already a hipster spot and lots of developers already over bought the area looking for a big company to move in to drive up the area even higher price than current.
Amazon coming into LIC would push gentrification beyond what has happened in Brooklyn the past decade.
Nope. The location of HQ2 is not where the issue is. They could’ve set up anywhere in the 5 boros and would’ve been met with the same or even LOUDER opposition.
The issue is, the deal was brokered by Cuomo and De Blasio without City Council input. This is the focal point of the kerfuffle. Council is livid because they had no say in the deal and probably wanted Amazon to line their pockets with cash. They had their own political interests at heart. That’s all this is

Gentrification is in full swing. We cannot stop it. But we can take the steps not to accelerate it. Nobody’s property value is going to lose in LIC. But now hundreds of thousands of people around LIC aren’t doomed to an immediate displacement. That is a victory.
Nyc will be fine right now but the future is up for debate
Yep, NYC and NYS were spending like drunken sailors as tax revenues skyrocketted along with the stock market. When the market corrects, BYE BYE money **POOF** we're talking cutbacks, recession, and dependence looking for their benefits where none can be afforded

What are you smoking, the people around LIC were going to get hired for a wide range of positions. Amazon was going out of its way to provide benefits for the community. For this, they got slapped in the face. Wonderful.
