Not a bad choice for Queens, but you are talking a very large area.
Where Flushing,Jamaica?
For work,in the city, expect 45 to 60 minutes each way.LIRR services parts of Jamaica and Flushing, along with Express buses and the standard MTA subway. Some drive to the station, which is a 2 fare zone IMHO.
Beats paying city prices, and one could even own a car!!!
A lot of people in both neighborhoods have cars, but neither is a two fare zone.
Depends. Flushing and Jamaica colloquially cover huge areas which may require a bus ride to really reach the 7 or E/F respectively.
It depends on what you consider Jamaica and Flushing to be. If you go by the post office's definition then it's not colloquial (nobody refers to Ridgewood as "Flushing" ).
Flushing is really expensive. New developments there cost as much as LIC or prime neighborhoods in Brooklyn. It is probably the most commercially active areas in the outer boroughs.
lots of residents in Flushing area don't need to commute to Manhattan. Flushing itself is a very big employment center.

Flushing is way too crowded, and you only have one 7 train go there, so I’m not all hype about flushing. Jamaica....I’m not so sure it would be any interest to me for the next 30 years or so, but hey, that’s just my $0.02.
The Long Island Railroad is also there. It’s a major travel option.
