2015 was a little worse than 2014. 2016 was a little worse than 2015. 2017 was a little worse than 2016. 2018 was a little worse than 2017. 2019 was a little worse than 2018. 2020 was a little worse than 2019. That’s how things decline without you even realizing it because it happens gradually.
Instead of criminalizing poor people, what is your solution? Have you fought for shelter reform? More healthcare for the mentally ill? More low-income housing?

You DO know that as the wealthy get more share of resources, the number of poor increases. The wealthy right now get more subsidies than the poor through tax breaks, write-offs, and risk aversion by way of public bailouts. Millionaires and billionaires don't loose their shirts when the economy tanks. They get new ones paid for by you and I.

Everyone always criminalizes and demonizes the poor, yet are perfectly fine with billionaires and millionaires getting away with taking money from you so that they can continue their lifestyle while throwing more crabs into the barrel to laugh at.

It is called the republican mind-freak. Distracting you like a pick pocket. You are so focused on the dirty poor, immigration - hell, even abortion. All while they pick your pockets. They are white-collar pick-pockets. Distract, steal.

This pandemic is the perfect opportunity to take more. Every economic downturn is an opportunity to take more. Big corps don't fail. Small businesses and individuals do. It is built into the system.

But go ahead. Denigrate the poor and the homeless at your own peril.

President Lyndon B. Johnson once said,

Quote:
"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

Oh save me the socialism cry. The city of New York already spends billions on the poor: free housing, free electricity/gas, free food, free healthcare, free education (including college), free childcare, free computers, iPads, free subway/bus, and god knows hundreds of other things. Many poor are publicly subsidized from cradle to grave. Generation after generation.

The system will only work when the middle class and wealthy are willing and able to support this. Even before this pandemic, the system was already showing signs of cracking as the middle class was starting to leave. The progressive agenda is simply unsustainable.

I really wish the virus never happened (for reasons besides the unfortunate death and social destructiveness of it) because then the progressives would not have an excuse for why their ideas fails.

As for solution, if you had paid attention, many others here already provided one, which was to open up mental institutions again, obviously with more safeguards from lessons learned from the past to prevent abuse.

Age old story here. Nothing new.

Folks who are uncomfortable with city living in a city the size of NYC, and folks who "just don't understand" riding the subway everyday, are those who constantly say "NYC is dying."

Just because the subway has super light ridership now, and homeless are almost the only ones left to highlight their presence with pictures, it doesn't mean the "subway is full of filth."

Some folks have been hummin' that same tune of demise for New York, since the 1800s.

I remember working in a Church soup kitchen in the early 1990's - lots of homeless and who were drunks. Also lots of senior citizenship whose social security wasn't enough to pay the rent and eat. Sad.

BTW, there have always been rats in the NYC subways - it is because they are dark, protected from rain/snow and have good nesting areas away from humans.

Stop acting privileged. You obviously do not know what a city going in a downward spiral looks like. Go to Baltimore, St. Louis and Detroit and come back here.

Nice catch phrase.

PS, I’m proud to be privileged. I hope my kids are even more privileged. Privilege means success and I’m never going to be shamed for my success.
