About 2 to 6 weeks before covid rates expected to show an uptick due to protests and reopenings that are not conforming to safety protocals, presuming adequate testing and non corrupted data. Cuomo doesnt want to get caught dissing cops and supporting protests while reporting on increasing numbers so he is just ending the daily updates now before he adds another ratings decline nursing home disapproval scandal.
New Yorkers Are Backsliding on Social Distancing

New York City has turned a corner in the coronavirus outbreak, but recently a troubling sign has emerged: People are openly disregarding measures requiring social distancing and face coverings, some of the very steps that officials said helped New York rebound.
And enforcement of rules is lax.
The details
Crowds have been gathering outside bars and restaurants in both the city and the Hamptons. On Friday night, for instance, large groups clustered at St. Marks Place in the East Village, many mask-free and with drinks in hand.
Some people sat on sidewalks; others milled about like they were at a block party.
A similar scene played out the next day outside a bar in Hell’s Kitchen. My colleague Liam Stack wrote on Twitter that this kind of crowding had been happening for over a week.
The weeks of protests over police brutality and racial injustice have also drawn tens of thousands of demonstrators and police officers — some of whom have not worn masks.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has warned that he may close any part of the state that sees a jump in virus cases.
“There is a very real possibility that we would roll back the reopening in those areas,” Mr. Cuomo said at his Sunday news briefing, suggesting that a dreaded second wave of infections was almost inevitable if people continued to gather and not wear masks. “It will come. And once it comes, it’s too late.”
The next day, Mr. Cuomo called out local officials who he said did not want to enforce unpopular rules. “Nobody wants to go to a bar and say: ‘You guys have to wear a mask. You guys are violating social distancing,’” the governor said. “I get it, but they have to do their job.”
In a statement on Monday, a spokeswoman for Mayor Bill de Blasio took issue with the governor’s complaints. “We must balance safety with people’s need to reopen their businesses,” the statement said. “These businesses are allowed to be open per the governor’s guidelines, and we don’t believe imprisoning people or taking away their livelihood is the answer.”
Also on Monday, Mr. de Blasio canceled his public appearances. His press secretary wrote on Twitter that the mayor “woke up feeling under the weather and is going to take the day to recuperate and work from home.”
We've had a pretty sustained decrease in cases and deaths for a bit now, so it makes sense to me to stop the daily briefings regardless of whether or not there are protests. I also think it'd make sense to bring the daily briefings back though if there's a severe spike. From what I gather so far, it doesn't seem like outdoor protests with people mostly wearing masks will be much of a vector so there's at least that.

Exactly. As of right now, there's just not much to report. NYC is still keeping its statistics updated here https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/covid/covid-19-data.page and there's nothing much going on despite weeks of poor social distancing. If the protests were going to have an impact, it would have started to show up by now. I expect they'll keep updating at least until we're into Phase 4 of reopening, though, because no one really knows if cases have dropped because of herd immunity, or because of the weather, or because the virus has mutated into a milder form, or just because people are still not getting on the trains in droves.

There’s also two other factors: one is that people are probably not going to work while sick nearly as much since they aren’t working, working from home, or are less likely to brush off coughing or fevers as just a simple cold (which they shouldn’t have been doing in the first place), and that mask usage has gone way up.
He can run, but he can't hide. They'll still be reported, even if not at his press conferences.
Exactly, if there is a spike we will see it
Here's the problem, it's summertime when UV rays are killing the virus. People are going to see infections under control and act like everything is good, and then October hits....
