A company in NYC just called me today, desperate! "WE NEED YOU!" They are begging me to work for them and would DOUBLE my old salary. That means I would be making a VERY comfortable salary for a single person with an extremely frugal and austere way of life.
They say I would be an asset to the company. I have a week to decide. Life is grand sometimes, isn't it? It is times like these when I am forever reminded that socialists often talk about redistributing the wealth, but they forget first that you need to actually create wealth.
God forbid some people acquire wealth in the process of creating it for others! Some New Yorkers, the most undesirable types, can't stomach that fact!
What better social service is there than to make people richer?
I have not yet made up my mind because I really do not like how NYC is being utterly destroyed by ignorant and incompetent politicians. I will have to see what my commute would be (I moved very far from NYC, but not so far that it is totally out of the question). NYC taxes hurt a lot and that is a factor that will influence my decision. On the other hand, with this salary I can most definitely live alone and save money. The job also offers good 401k and health plan. Plus, I would have an administrative assistant.
Personally, I hope you consider coming back. Conservative NYers shouldn't just keep running away at every opportunity, that's like conceding defeat.
NY was lost for good in 1990. Look how far it came.
Nah. There were plenty of ethnic white conservatives still living in the boroughs in 1990, so all we needed back then was the leadership which we got from St. Rudy. Today there aren't any of either left!
I am definitely considering after looking at what they are offering (at least via telephone chat). I have a serious meeting with them today. We shall see...if everything is as good as it sounds, I could definitely consider returning. Only thing, I would still not want to actually live in NYC, but perhaps the surrounding communities could work.

Head for zzzz hills.
If Fat Tony and Billy O'Dwyer was all it took to keep NYC from going under then why did this place look like Beruit from 1965 till ~1995? I'm half Italian btw so I can say these things w/ love in my heart
Don't get me wrong, I mourn the loss of old school ethnic white NY as much as anyone. But they were going to leave no matter what, so what's the difference?

I would suggest you ignore the political side of things if a reputable company is offering to double your salary. If you so choose, NYC is a great place to build your professional reputation and pack money into your retirement account and then bounce after 10 years. Especially, like I said, when the company is offering to double your current salary.
Depends on how you're planning to commute, I think. My BIL works for a financial firm in Manhattan. They tried to reopen the office a couple of weeks back, and had to close it down again because the staff was getting harassed on the trains. If you're going to drive, different story, but that will eat a good chunk of your pay increase.
Don't know where your office will be but have you considered Staten Island or maybe Howard Beach.
