Any guesses? Do you believe the next mayor will be ever-more progressive? or will NYC roll back into a slightly more conservative era (but still Democrat)?
I don’t foresee a Republican being elected, I think that’s off the table for now, but I’m curious where on the scale of Democrat they will be. It sounds like many neighborhoods are electing highly progressive candidates (see: Sunset Park). Will this trend be visible at the mayoral level?
How about Chirlane McCray, but she wouldn't want to take the pay cut.
"Coronavirus threatens to unravel government services all over the country, but one citizen of New York is continuing to enjoy excellent government support: New York first lady Chirlane McCray.
Officially, McCray enjoys eight full-time staff members paid for by New York taxpayers. But according to the City, which first reported the matter, McCray’s staff has quietly swelled to 14 in recent months, with six staffers assigned to work for McCray while nominally employed, and paid, by other city agencies. The staffers’ total compensation approaches $2 million, including a $130,000-per-year ‘director of policy’ and a $140,000 per year ‘communications adviser’ (for comparison, the press secretary for the UK prime minister earns less than $120,000). Other employees in McCray’s retinue are a dedicated social media manager and a $70,000-per-year videographer who produced a video of McCray baking ginger snaps back in April:"
We’ll get a better sense of mayoral possibilities after the November election. If it’s Trump I think we’ll see a more progressive mayor. If it’s Biden, my guess is the mayor will be a center-left Democrat.

If the crime wave continues, I think this will push Eric Adams to the forefront. Black, a former cop, somewhat more moderate, pro-economic development, he's the one of the better candidates. Corey Johnson, Stringer, Shaun Donovan or any other of the numerous white liberals are all trying to run to DeBlasio's left. You think things are bad now?
History shows that candidates can come out of nowhere. No one really knew of Obama prior to 2004, and Mike Bloomberg supposedly had no chance against then uber liberal wackjob, Mark Green in 2001. And who would have picked Trump prior to 2015.
As for NYC, we'll need the polar opposite of uber liberal DeBlasio to pick up the piece and rebuild NYC once his disaster is over. That would mean we'd need a pretty conservative Black/Hispanic/White/Asian republican...and I don't think any exists. None that could get elected anyway.
