This morning I heard water moving through my pipes. So I'm guessing the building is preparing for heat season to begin in a few days.
October is the month I always hate being at home. Some days it's not warm enough for the heat to be on but it's chilly inside.

Right now it is still too humid for any heat. I want it colder and far less humid. Sunday was horrible with the humidity.

I agree. Went out on Sunday and there were a ton of misquitos and now my arm is in pain when those suckers die, it's time for the heat to come on.

It's been so beautiful for the past 2 weeks....cool but not cold air. Sweatshirt weather! Yesterday and today were/are gross with the humidity. Back to using AC. Blah.

After some moderate physical activity, I was sweltering like a fog sitting under a july sun...NYC is becoming subtropical without the subtropical scenery......

Same. Don't know how it is outside but it's hot inside. I have my ac on full blast since yesterday.

According to the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, building owners are required to provide hot water year-round and heat under certain conditions during what is designated as heat season from October 1 to May 31: Property owners must provide tenants with heat under the following conditions:
  • Between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., if the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees, the inside temperature is required to be at least 68 degrees Fahrenheit; and,
  • Between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., the inside temperature is required to be at least 62 degrees Fahrenheit.

I own a 1-family house and usually shut off the central a/c and turn the heat on around October 15th. My a/c and heat are separate systems installed at different times so one must be shut down before the other is turned on. The house came with a forced (natural gas) hot-air system with floor vents. The a/c was installed by a previous owner and uses ceiling vents.

I keep the heat at 65° days and 61° nights.

I did a few loads of laundry Sunday morning in the laundry room and had to take a shower afterwards. It felt much better this morning, so I turned the fan off.
