I am so shocked.

https://nypost.com/2020/10/14/new-yo...d-19-pandemic/

New Yorkers reported 4,477 stolen bikes from March 1 to Sept. 21, 2020, a 27 percent increase from 3,507 over the same period last year, NYPD said.

The spike comes amid a national bike shortage spurred by cycling booms in New York and other cities since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s the fastest-growing mode of transportation in the city, dramatically so this year,” said Bike New York spokesman Jon Orcutt.

Ah so they got better at it due to more availability.

I remember in the hood people use to order Chinese food and when the person shows up on the electric bike someone would knock them off and ride off with the bike. Now that there is UberEats, GrubHub, etc more bikes mean more opportunities.

I wonder is they are factoring in citi bikes into this data. Those red Jump bikes too, I remember seeing them in the South Bronx for a little while then poof never to be seen again.

I was reading some biking forums for NYC and saw many suggestions to not leave the bike unattended at all here. Some had thier bikes damaged by either failed thefts or just on purpose. I know some bikes are taken by force but I think its not as common.

Bike sales boomed during the pandemic. One basic tune up I waited 2 weeks the shop was so busy.

I just don't like it when they ride on the sidewalk. Isn't that illegal? See bikes and scooters just zipping along on the sidewalk & it's annoying as all heck.

No I don't do drugs. To be honest I scan your rants. They all sum up to the same thing. Bitter family man living in the burbs, unhappy in life. So sorry I didn't read it closely.

I know they use the sidewalks on the bridges when I walk over. They beep they little horns and expect the people walking to move for them.
