Yep. If your brownstone has a stoop/staircase leading to the second floor, I recommend getting security bars on both the ground floor and second floor. Note, the security bars can be those that have a lock and can open if you want to be able to open them from the inside, etc. Higher than that and they really aren't needed.
In the brownstone where I lived, there were only security bars on the ground level. Even though there was a stood, you'd have to stretch out pretty far to get from the stoop to the windows on the second floor.
Here's a Google StreetView of the street that I grew up on in Bed Stuy. You'll see that some homeowners have bars on both the first and second floor, while others have them only on the first floor. And a few don't have bars on any floor.
