It's that time of year folks, people all over Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, parts of Bronx and yes even in Manhattan are shoveling out spots. And sure enough cones, cans, and whatever else can get are being used to stake their claim.

Now in Manhattan where this is happening in front of multi-family buildings I give a side eye. But out on SI or elsewhere we're talking about single or maybe two family homes. If I shovel out spot in front of my house, it's *MINE*.

Public roads are well.....public roads.

Where there is ample space for parking ( in some of the boroughs ) the unwritten rule of my house ...my spot... easily settles in. Understood.

With Covid and most folks not budging from home I envision many vehicles being buried in until the snow melts away.

Kids....think twice before climbing those hills of snow. You might just go through someone's windshield.

So we're supposed to feel sorry for people who don't have off-street parking? I'm going to give the C-D response:

"Save money, buy a house with a driveway"

Streets are public, you do not own the spot in front of your house.

Most houses in US have driveways that can fit 4 cars on average. Seems like a NYC problem.

They go through it in Boston too, and they're worse in Boston. They will put something in the spot to hold it, like a cooler or lawn chair.

It's "yours" as long as you're parked there, but that's it.

When I lived in Brooklyn everybody did this, myself included. But only after a really big storm like in 1978 and 1983. Here on S.I. every house on my block has a driveway. I do not care who parks in front of my house, the street belongs to everyone. If one of the few renters on the block parks in front of my house, digs out their car and wants to save the space, be my guest. In fact I'll even let them use my garbage pails as along as they place them back on the side of my house.

I've always heard that in Boston and Philadelphia there are huge brawls over 'saved' parking spaces.
