I don't like the fact that Co-Op City is so isolated from the rest of the Bronx - nor the fact that the nearest train stations are either a hell of a long walk (Baychester) or you have to take a bus / cut through the park (Pelham Bay Bark).

That said, I did look into getting in there. I know people have said that it was nothing but "a higher class, clean PJ" but that's a bit much. Owning a property is a goal that I'd like to meet some day and the low maitenance fee is pretty attractive as well ($500 for a 1 bedroom? Sign me up).

Two questions:

- When I last applied there - the waiting list was 18 months. Has it gone down in the last couple years?

- Pardon my ignorance but when they talk about the Co-Op City section #s - someone once told me that it goes with the street names i/e Section 1 = A streets (Asch Loop, Aldrich St, Alcott Pl); Section 2 = B streets (Bellamy Loop, Broun Pl); Section 3 = C Streets (Carver Loop, Cooper Pl); Section 4 = D streets (Dreiser Loop, Debs Pl); Section 5 = E streets (Earhart Lane, Erskine Pl). Is that right or am I way off here?

Co-Op City is ghetto although the people there will tell you it's not ghetto.

There are better areas to invest in. Remember, the less the density, the better the investment. You have so many people living on top of each other in those buildings--how can it be nice?

What affordable dense area is not a ghetto?

Crime-wise it's not Morrisania, but it's not good.

It's to the Bronx what Starrett City is to Brooklyn. Queens' version, LeFrak City, is actually good because it's surrounded by good areas.

It isn't that bad compared to some other neighborhoods in the Bronx.

A lot of people from Co-op are pretty ghetto. It's weird. I guess its from them being kinda isolated from the rest of the Bronx. They kinda have their own vibe out there. I don't like Co-op personally, but I can see how its an attractive option for a lot of people.
