Cuomo also said that he is considering allowing indoor dining to resume at 25% capacity in New York City. He said he will unveil a plan and timeline by the end of the week. The 10 p.m. curfew for restaurants, however, will likely remain in place, he said.
They really should lift the curfew. 10 PM?! Man...
Agreed, that obnoxiousness needs to end.
Also, get rid of the stupid "gotta buy food with your beer" rule. You're not deterring COVID by having a bag of chips lol.
Do you see how the AG is questioning how Covid deaths were counted? I was complaining up to recently about Cuomo and how he forced nursing homes to accept Covid-positive patients. An investigation is showing that up to 50 per cent of deaths in nursing homes might not be accounted for. Of course, he is upset about this being that he is the one who gave that order when there were how many hotels, casinos, you name it he could have temporarily used to quarantine people.
I remember during the summer when we were at the lowest rates in the country, he would not open up the city more. I never forgot that. Now he is realizing the anger and is opening up indoor dining but it's too little too late. 25 per cent and for how long!? Many won't survive at that rate for that many months.
COVID won't be around forever, it's not going to really deter people from opening up a bar/restaurant here.
Exactly. My grandfather used to say something along the lines of "food never goes out of style, people will always want to eat!" How true! Once this whole pandemic is over, people will be flocking back to restaurants. Most people don't really enjoy staying at home days on end.

Of course, but would you really want to pump all that money into opening a bar knowing that Cuomo or whoever else is the governor has the power to ruin your business that easily?

I mean, NYC is one of the least ideal places to open up a small business even before the pandemic, so I agree on that aspect. On the other hand, there are lots of people who don't know how to do anything else except food service, so there's that reality. Most business owners in NYC voted for Cuomo anyway, so you get what you vote for. I'm not a fan of Cuomo, but I think any other governor would have done similar things in a liberal state.
Also, I think Cuomo gave up on lockdowns long ago. NYC really did not have a brutal lockdown like European or Asian countries. In many Euro countries you actually had to show police a receipt of where you went shopping and you could not even leave your region. NY Pause was a joke in comparison.

As hostile as it is for businesses in this socialist state and city, there will always be businesses that will open up here simply because there is a sizable population and their spending. It is always risky doing biz in NYC but there will always be people willing to take a chance despite all the extra hurdles and high costs.
Will the city be as vibrant and interesting as it was? Probably not but it won’t be a complete ghost town either. Even at its worst for dying cities like Detroit, Buffalo, Newark, Cleveland, etc. there were still people living there and businesses catering to them. Just a lot of shuttered store fronts and bleak streets but there were still pockets of life here and there.
