I used the nyc vaccine website continuously for 2 days and finally got 2 appointments for my parents. We schlepped there, I tell you it was non easy feat, my mother is immobile. Luckily once at the hub they took my parents right away due to the wheelchair situation and scheduled the 2nd dose on site. I truly hope there isn’t snow piles on the ground, there will be no way we could possibly get my mom transported safely.
If you are a patient of one of the major health systems, make sure you are registered with their online accounts and they will text you when they have an available appointment for you. This may take a long time though.
Other option is as others have said keep going on those sites and refreshing the page.
Nope. They go to Florida every winter, are 70 plus and their insurance let them know they could get one.
I think I read that regular snowbirds who have property in Florida (meaning they are regular part-time residents) are eligible for the vaccine there. But someone just going down for a vacation isn't. I have a friend who lives in Greater Chicago Area whose elderly parents booked a 2 month vacation in Florida with thought they would be able to vaccinated there and then found out they can't get the vaccine. They are still going on their vacation but will get vaccinated after they return to Illnois.
NY has badly screwed up the vaccine procurement and distribution system, other states are doing better...satisfied.
The New York vaccine-finder website seems to have been written by a 10 year old...and NOT Young Sheldon Cooper.
<Trump threatened to shortchange NY through HHS vaccine distribution. Seems he DID, so he is not off the hook.>
But I am not interested in assigning blame but rather in getting vaccinated.
I have heard that February 11 will signal allowing pharmacies to start offering the vaccine. Right now a couple Rite Aid's are on the list but they never have appointments.
I am definitely in the FIRST part of group 1b.
Yesterday, I used the phone link, now on speed dial. Finally I got "there are appointments available, press 1 for english, etc." Phone transferred and I was filled with hope. "What borough do you prefer?" I said "Manhattan." After 10 minutes of checking she said "no appointments in Manhattan." I said "Brooklyn or Queens will do"...20 minutes "No appoinntments for Broooklyn or Queens."
I guess I should have said, "try Florida or Pennsylvania???"
Yes, am spending more than 90% of my time cooped in the apartment, but not because of choice.
