Do you have any kind of proof that 50% of people in New York City are on public assistance??

If this city is so great it should be able to pick itself up by its bootstraps or deal with the consequences of mismanagement.

If the rich paid their fair share of taxes, NYC would have enough to cover its spending.

Yes but you need to cobble data together from various government reports/sources. It's not in a single place because the various forms of assistance are distributed by different city and federal agencies. I've done it out of curiosity. A lot of interesting data comes out of the city and state comptroller's offices. Without that it would be even harder to get an accurate picture.

Spending on and for what exactly? There's an endless amount of ways to spend someone else's money. There needs to be a valid reason and reasonable ROI.

I'm not rich by any means. Why don't you take more from the rich and take zero from me? Something tells me you wouldn't like that either.

The rich pay vastly more then there fair share. Look up the percentage of total state tax revenue generated by the to 1000 taxpayers (out of the a population of 17 million. )

This is precisely why it'll happen. It's an easy tax to pass and isn't obvious to most residents.

Same thing happened with the plastic bag ban. It's just a hidden tax.
