This place is cool. Will check it out when the weather's nice. It's accessible by subway!

The sounds of a walk in the forest — a babbling brook, the crunch of leaves beneath your shoes — are familiar sounds on the trails in Van Cortlandt Park in the North West Bronx. It’s a remote journey that is not really that far away from city life.

What You Need To Know:

Van Cortlandt Park is the third largest city park with 1,146 acres

There are more than 600 acres of urban forest with a storied cross country course and more than 20 miles of hiking trails

There are five different hiking trails within the park, ranging in difficulty from easy to moderate
The trails can be accessed by subway from the last stop on the 1 train at 242nd Street in The Bronx

It's in the Bronx, but in the nice part in Riverdale, so you'll be fine there.

I have been there once. There are nice areas there with trees and trails.
