look at mr high and mighty airborneguy. dont worry your job will be offshore outsourced overseas eventually.
if you employer doesnt need the office space anymore.. why would he need you? do you not think that people overseas are fully capable of shuffling papers?

and they will also embrace offshore outsourcing. there are plenty of people available in india, china, eastern europe, mexico and south america that can speak english, do math and are already doing jobs that were formally american ( think call centers, IT, and financial services).

That trend will accelerate as well. No company has loyalty to you and the community, only to the bottom line. growth in america has reached a peak.

true growth will happen overseas and in latin america now. ive travelled latin america and found plenty of people fluent in english and working for american companies, but not taking american salaries. in fact one of my clients has most of their workers overseas even though its an american-based financial services outfit.

beyond that, A.I and automation will usher in the next industrial revolution and true globalism. you may have to chase your job overseas as many tech workers did in the 90s and early 2000's, and still do.

Pretty hard for Indians or Bangladeshis to obtain in person sworn statements throughout NYC, but good luck trying. I already have a pension and a second cash construction job anyway.

If you don’t have multiple backup systems in place, that’s your fault, not mine. The hot dog guy’s family is his own problem.

The other industry that is dying from a lack of office workers are cab drivers. I am also including Uber/Lyft rideshares. Tourism is still down and people don't feel compelled to zip around midtown for the cost of a plane ticket anymore.

Between NAFTA and lots of factories closing down, I dont understand why they keep the borders open and let in more slave labor. Those folks will not be working from home, yet the population is increasing while the low level jobs are decreasing. If the upper crust is doing so well, universal income is not only an option, its a MUST within a decade or so for a lot of people.
Stupefying.

Corps are saving way too much money. It is practically like offshoring but actually having US based staff.

Adams and that Houchl woman can run their mouths all they like, nature of office employment has changed over past two years, and won't be going back no matter what anyone does.

Younger workers for years have wanted changes in what they saw as old ways of office culture. Federal and state ordered lockdowns let bull out of that barn, and that's all there is to say.

Modern technology of course has made much of these changes possible, and increasing numbers of employers are finding out this new tech means they can get same or better productivity even with WFH.

exactly this.

he was saying people need to go back to work because businesses in Manhattan depend on full offices. while it's true they do, that's not a reason for anyone to go back to the office. He doesn't seem to understand that part of the equation.

Is Manhattan’s Back-to-the-Office Moment Finally Here?

https://www.thecity.nyc/economy/2022...-office-moment

Early signs show momentum to get workers back to their desks in offices — though some employers still have no formal plans to return.

In the coming days, the corporate bankers at Wells Fargo will begin returning to their offices on 42nd Street for the first time in two years, the last of the major financial firms to order a return to in-person work.

This week, the staff at the sprawling City University of New York system will be required to work seven out of every 10 business days in their offices.

And widely watched data from property management firm Kastle Systems shows that office occupancy in New York City has finally ticked back up above 30%, following a sharp plunge in December when the omicron coronavirus variant sent workers who had been coming to office towers home.

Office occupancy was already expected to jump in March as coronavirus case counts have plunged. Actions by Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams to lift many pandemic restrictions are likely to further embolden employers to demand their workers return to their offices.

“We had a horrible lull in January, but activity seems to be picking up,” said Barbara Blair, head of the Garment District Alliance. Pedestrian traffic in the area in late February finally topped 500,000 per day again. “I am optimistic.”
