125th st was great back in the 70's Oils and body scents....all sorts of trinkets.
The neighborhood ambiance has changed.

Delancey Street in Manhattan by the Williamsburg bridge has what you're looking for. Otherwise go to downtown Brooklyn's Fulton Street.

125th st experience -

a) sidewalk vendors selling black nationalist posters, African incense, and Obama posters.
b) discount dollar stores selling expired food and drinks run by Indians and Orthodox Jews
c) chinese restaurant w/bulletproof glass
d) metropcs/cricket discount phone stores
e) storefront churches w/some guy claiming to be a preacher shoving pamphlets in your face on the sidewalk for a donation
f) young black men trying to sell you their mix tape/cd
g) gossipy old black women leaving a restaurant after gracing the waiter w/a religious pamphlet instead of a tip.
