Black church leaders can step up and organize after school programs to keep young kids with absent parental figures busy. Make deals with trade unions and colleges to teach young adults job skills. This includes basics like balancing your check book, cooking, etc. But instead these church leaders are too busy complaining about abortion and gay marriage.

Edit if you think this is unrealistic, the Catholic Church is doing this for many parishes in NYC in Hispanic neighborhoods. ( But they also have time to rail about abortion and gays). This is probably due to the massive organizational strengths they have like strict hierarchy and deep funding.

As a black/white male, I'm tired of hearing people say "The Black Community" is to blame. Whose to blame is people irresponsible enough to have kids they can't afford/care enough to raise properly, school systems bent around generating legions of over-paid beauracrats then results, politicans focused on spending for votes than creating a economically dynamic city that would give these kids an opportunity and of course the often iliy-white do-gooders that create laws that let people with 50 felony arrests go free.

Those of us [Black folks] that are working hard and maintaining are either focused on doing that or moving South or to the suburbs. If a black person walked up to these guys they'd be cut just as fast as a white person. Remember that video of the black teen whaling on the black cop in the subway? You have generations of blonde haired blue eyed deadbeats and pill poppers in places like Kentucky and Idaho but because white poverty and dysfunction is often rural it's not reported on.

The mindset is broken. Black people aren't the ones in control of the media that pumps out music and movies exclusivley focused on us being either a) helpless victims or b) criminally inclined. There's a larger agenda here: the best way to keep a people down is to tell them they can never get up. There's a reason the powers that be focus more on Tupac than Neil Degresse Tyson or say the CEO of Credit Suisse (who's Black). A lot of the reason you have so many black families on the nightly news saying "He dinnint do nuffin" is because of this more than the real "Black Community".
