Sadly old school thriving Italian-American nabes in NYC have been shrinking for decades. Things only get worse year after year for many reasons. High among them is it doesn't take much for some people to pack up and move. Once an area tips it's often a mad rush for the exits.
Bayridge, Bensonhurst, Belmont have some bits left, but have been shrinking for years. First two are fast becoming largely Asian (Chinese).
Greenwich and West Village also once had strong Italian American presence, but that's pretty much shrunk as well. That dramatic change came into view recently when Our Lady of Pompeii joined a long list of Catholic schools founded and or largely once attended by Italian-Americans (or Irish) that have recently closed. https://thevillagesun.com/our-lady-o...chdiocese-says
If you want to be with your people so much wouldn't it be easier to just... go back to Italy?
Isn't it amazing that a desire of culture prompts such questions?
