If buying a OMNY card, does it have expiration date and require buying a new one every few years? Or OMNY card will last forever?

Thanks.

Mine expires after 6 years, at which point, it'll probably be cracked and filthy. No tap and go card lasts more than a few years.

It expires (mine expires in August 2028) but by then it will probably be pretty beat up or long lost anyway.

Why do you need an OMNY card? Just use a credit card, debit card or iPhone!

Some people get a commuter benefits card from pre-tax deductions that is not yet tap and pay nor can be loaded directly into a phone wallet. It can, however, be loaded onto an OMNY card.

Seriously?? People don't want to use a credit card because they want to save a few cents on tax??

I use another Credit card every month. To use them for OMNY must I register ALL of them with MTA to use them alternately?
That seems like putting out a LOT of info up for the hacking.

Do I need to tell the MTA every source of my potential credit?

What are you talking about? Use any credit card and tap on the OMNY screen. That's it!

Using OMNY is meant to help make your life simpler, not more difficult!

Not a few cents - I get/use $100 month in commuter benefits - at a 30% total tax rate, that's $360 a year in taxes saved (1200 * 0.3), so I'm effectively paying $840 for $1200 in travel a year, not a bad savings.

I don't know. I think people make too big a deal out of tax.
