“The Governor’s proposal was to raise the payroll mobility tax to 0.5 percent for the entire region. Now the plan is to raise it to 0.6 just for New York City,” an outraged Assembly Member Robert Carroll (D-Brooklyn) told Streetsblog on Wednesday afternoon amid ongoing budget negotiations on Wednesday afternoon.
Even if you don't drive in NYC and the speedcam doesn't get you, they will come for you. Way too go with inflation killing families and payroll hike to squeeze people even more.
us long islanders get to pay an additional $50 car registration fee every two years that goes right to the MTA for each of our vehicles.
God forbid the sacred subway fare should ever rise.

Serves you right. You demanded a new arena for the Islanders in a ****ty location of Long Island, when you could have commuted by LIRR to Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn.

That arena had terrible sight lines and is not suitable for hockey whatsoever.

Barclays center could have been renovated but Islander fans refused. Even if that were the case, Islander fans should have been outraged the new LIRR station wasn't even one seat. To get to the new arena one has to take a train and a bus. In Brooklyn all that was required was a train or two if transferring at Jamaica.
People in Long Island should have shown anger at the setup but were nonchalant about it. So I still don't sympathize.

The NHL and the Islanders determined that a new arena made more sense. It was a basketball arena first and foremost and the Islanders were an afterthought.

Even if that were the case, the Islander fans are idiots for not making sure the LIRR was a one-seat ride instead of a train/brain combo to the new arena. The station should have been right next to the new arean walkable for fans. This is exactly why Long Islanders are morons. They obsessed over the actual arena without the consideration of how to get to the arena. Not to mention housing can't be built near the new arena cause it is placed in a weird spot.

They seem to be filling the seats just fine, though, from what I've read
