I lived on St.Mark's between 2nd and 3rd. It was a primitave tenement apartment, but it had a balcony, 1 bedroom, and it faces the street. Stores, bars, and restaurants were open almost all night.
Lol at 8000$. The kicker is the estate agent’s description:
" Be at the heart of it all when you live on St. Mark’s Place, known for its long history of subversive, edgy, and avant-garde residents and establishments."
You can be subversive, only, remember, it’s gonna cost you. Edgy, lol.
If I didn't have kids, I'd gladly give up my $2,400/month 3/2 1,400sqft in the suburbs of Orlando for a similarly-priced ~400 sqft studio in the heart of the city. I recently stayed in a 420 sqft "Junior Suite" hotel room, and it was more than ample space for me. As a single man, I don't need much -- space for a TV/entertainment center, a sofa/pullout bed of some kind (maybe a futon), a bathroom, a closet and a kitchen

I recall my uncle living in a 6th floor walk up in Greenwich Village when my mother and I visited for the first and only time. I think he paid $800 a month which sounded very expensive to my young ears. It was crawling with cockroaches and he got robbed when someone came in via the fire escape. He moved to San Francisco shortly thereafter and came out of the closet.
