that’s another thing that drove me nuts .

these major single lane roads and people who drove at a snails pace .

route 6 by us was just awful more often then not from those who shouldn’t be driving on main roads and it was dangerous going around them

Living within the cross hairs of 3 bordering counties there are a number of multiple car lanes to get to where you need to go.
In addition, there are many, many single roads as you have described with unguarded water run off ditches running alonside.

I can see where it would be unsafe in the latter to pass a slow driver.

I encountered a number, quite a number of tailgaters riding me (I'm doing the speed limit ) bumper to bumper.
The interesting part was 9 out of 10 tailgaters were women. Yes, I have been keeping track.
I can not respectfully engage ( ma va fa napoli ) so I just pull over as soon and safely as possible.

I find avoiding rush hours is key. I find running errands between 9am-2pm safe.

Haven't run into any traffic remotely resembling N.Y.C. ( phew ) and experiencing more and more enjoyable riding times.
Words can not describe the beauty of the many mountains and the Lehigh and Delaware Rivers.

Hope you get a chance to revisit. Then again ( family members ) there is no convincing city slickers.

That's more of a NEPA issue then Central or South PA issue. The lack of lanes on major roads. Allentown doesn't really have that problem though, at least to the same extent.

Update:

Small renovations. Rain has been annoting.
My vegetable garden is coming together.Set aside 200 square feet.
Arugula,tomatoes,parsnips,turnips,swisschard,lettu ce,micromix,italian mix,carrots and beets.
Figs tree planted as well as Blackberry. Water, Sunshine and time. No pesticides.

Visited Doylestown.Very clean.Nice. Walkable. Had a small N.Y.C. downtown vibe.
The usual traffic and people going back and forth to work. I prefer the slower pace.
Yardsales at various locations around Allentown even if I don't buy a thing. Get to
meet so many people, many with dogs. Love it. Can't pet enough of them.

With all the activities described in your updates, I could roughly figure out where in Nepa you moved to by now… you might have overlooked this, but watch out for those 4-legged thieves who will invite themselves to your vegetable garden for free dinners before you get to harvest anything.
