i know somebody from northern california that moved here and lives in washington heights now....she misses driving around, as she doesnt need a car in manhattan.
I used to live in SoCal. I sold my car when I came to Manhattan but I bought a new one because I missed having a car!
I don't drive it everyday but it feels good knowing I have a car. I walk, drive, take a cab and the train. I switch it up because riding the train every day just disgusted me and felt so redundant. Weird, I know.
I also love exploring places outside of Manhattan so the car is really useful.
I'm from San Diego Cali....and while NYC is fun and great for the opp's...I'm outta here as soon as I get my Bachelor's. I transitioned pretty quickly..but my friend came out here and was such a big freakin' baby...NYC spit her back out in a hot minute. She literally lasted 2 weeks here.
I'm not gonna knock NYC too much..because the pay is GREAT...but when you grow up somewhere as gorgeous as California it's hard to EVER accept the Zoo York filth-fest. Get me? LOL
It's a classic case of, "If you're here, it's because you want to be."
Because the two regions are so different, the SoCal people here have often wanted to be here for quite awhile. So they usually love NYC. I like to think that, like me, they didn't "fit in" with SoCal culture and feel more at home here than anywhere.
This is true. I have an "aggresive" personality so I have done fine here. I have wanted to come since I was 16. I definitely don't hate being here. It's a great experience...but I still have a hard time accepting the dirtiness and crowds...although I have gotten used to them .
The only reason I would say I don't "fit in" with other NYers is bc generally I'm a tad happier and a bit nicer lol..not to say there aren't chill NYers.

I soooo feel you on this. I love saving the money..but I like a nice clean taxi or car sometimes too lol/.
I fit in in California..and I fit in here..but I think I also stand out a little because people are always saying " OMG you are soooo nice " and this and that. IT has worked to my benefit not to be the stereotype grouchy nyer lol. I have landed many reputable jobs with a smile...and obviously a decent resume and good interview skills haha
I think it all comes down to being yourself and not living up to the hype. Just like not everyone in cali is stuck up and superficial, not everyone in ny is rude and grouchy. Ive visited NJ before and the people were really nice!
Yeah that's true. I'm from Cali..and I'm not gonna lie..they can be phony and fake..but they aren't as rude as here lol. But to each person their own. I think people out there are happier and nicer because they get more sun and aren't as crammed and having to compete to survive. But there are goods and bads about both sides
