after thousands of informative posts and multiple threads over the past few years, with tons of info for us guys OTJ looking to stay informed, and also for everyone waiting on the 6063 list, we can't let the DSNY thread die now just because of the name of the thread...plus the "Sanitation Exam" thread was 60 pages...here are the last few posts from the other thread so they don't get lost in the shuffle

Its been said in some circles on the job that there might be a couple classes toward the summer 2010. And its also been said that not one sanworker will be hired until they are in tier 5 or whatever it is to be called. Meaning that they must work at least 25 years and be at least 50 or 55 years old to collect a pension. Plus, they will not see any benefit by working lots of overtime, because most of that will not be pensionable toward retirement. There are alot of questions that remain unanswered right now. But I suspect things will come to a head soon,as night plow(sanitation lingo for sanworkers compelled to pull night shifts all winter long to provide snow-fighting coverage 24/7)winds down. Currently, and perhaps co-workers will chime in,districts are running with lower manpower.
Retiring sanworkers arent being replaced. So I would say, yes,we do need new sanworkers to be hired. But,there is evidence suggesting that the city will impose many restrictions on the union and the workers in order to allow this to occur. And in my opinion, the city has been increasingly pushing to get more out of sanworkers in order to put off hiring more workers as long as possible. So,there is my opinion about the chances of currently being hired as a nyc sanitation worker.

I will no longer add any of my 20 years of experienced information or opinions about this job since we are not allowed to talk about none exam topics. I bid you all a farewell and good luck getting the job and on the job, you will need it.

Default Hiring

Does anybody know if we could contact the union and find out if they have any idea when there might be another class hired?
