What if they took one borough, lets say the Bronx and dedicated it solely for all the NYC projects and low income buildings (not moderate) with extremely heavy police presence. Then took another borough, say Queens and made it condusive only to middle class people, built apartments for moderate income people and made homes attractive to first time homebuyers. Then they made the rest of the city market rate (AKA for the rich). What would NYC be like? What would you think of this idea? Could this actually work?

You mean make the Bronx like a jail or plantation with overseers to watch over the bad people while the so call good guys live in the rest of NYC crime and poverty free?
Didn't work in the 1800s,didn't work in Nazi Germany and I doubt it would work now.
In a capitalist society like NYC region, economic segregation already exists and it's been that way for decades...
Many wealthy live in well-protected, segregated co-ops/condos on Park/Fifth/15CPW; are driven around Manhattan via own Mercedes S-Class to well-protected offices in Midtown and to major restaurants on UES, etc; fly on their own private G550 out of Teterboro/WhitePlains; copter out to Hamptons, etc etc....
Same differentiated/protected lifestyle of wealthy exists in any capitalist (and pseudo-socialist) region anywhere in world...suspect most w/money are willing to spend to have a higher std of living, w/more safety, comfort and convenience....the wealthy in NYC favor UES/15 CPW/Greenwich; the semi-affluent can often only afford places like Scarsdale and face arduous, sweaty, smelly commutes via train and fly commercial airlines, etc etc....usual economic hierarchies

I think your being a bit dramatic. It is no secret crime rates are higher in low income neighborhoods. That is why I added the police part.
BTW, much of why many in US have no issues w/economic segregation is that arguably no other country in world has as much dramatic upward economic mobility as does US, esp seen in NYC region and in SiliconValley....
Many of the hedge fund titans are <50yo guys whose parents were middle-class...and many guys are originally from all over US (and outside US)....same cosmopolitan dynamic is seen in SV....
What could you possibly have been thinking to even start a thread like this? Will you also wonder whether people should start carrying around identification cards making their race and ethnicity official?

Some of you guys take things entirely too seriously. I just wondered if that could work under any circumstances. Its really not that serious and of course it will never happen. If you don't want to answer feel free to move on to the next thread. Next time i'll start a basic top 5 thread so some won't hurt themselves trying to think and formulate an opinion.
