...? It's a railroad station, if you're going during rush hour and it's busy, you're safe. If you're there in the middle of the night, it may not be safe. These rules apply whether you're in Fordham or Garden City. I feel more safe at my 169th subway stop in Jamaica at 4 am than in many Manhattan stations, which may sound ludicrous to people, but the feeling of safety is more or less a feeling of familiarity in the end.... anyway, I'll stop being philosophical. Maybe someone more familiar with the Bronx can chime in, but my guess is both are safe during the day.
I know it's a railroad station. I live in Brooklyn and take the subway and Metro North and LIRR all the time, however I'm not that familiar with the Bronx. I need to get to Kinsella Ave and I just want to know which Metro North Station is safer.....Fordham or Botanical Gardens.
I will be traveling there on a Sunday afternoon.
On a Sunday afternoon, as others have stated, you will be fine with either station. However, there are differences between the two in terms of accessibility, if that matters in your situation. Also, I would recommend calling first for a cab (numbers on MetroNorth information sheet for each station) so that you are assured of getting a sanctioned taxi service, not a livery cab that might charge a different rate.
Much much easier to get a cab at the Fordham Rd. Station. Botantical Garden stop lets you out at the Botanical Garden on Southern Blvd...not a lot of cabs... There are a million cabs on Fordham Rd.
