We know that the South Bronx is changing dramatically, but this article really provides some insight into what the city's plans are for the Southern swath of the Bronx, specifically Mott Haven. Here are some excerpts: "The Harlem River Waterfront could be transformed within a decade to a Battery Park City of the North, with towering apartment buildings as high as 40 stories overlooking a waterfront promenade laced with open-air cafes and patches of green." AND "Community Board 1 unanimously approved the plan at its February meeting." AND The government is not going to build any of this itself. But, through a process called rezoning, it can change the rules that govern how people who own property in the area develop and use their land. "We want to create a place where people can live, work, shop and play,” said Carol Samol, head of the city planning department’s Bronx office." This was an incredible presentation by the way, and not only is the city on board with this 10 year plan, but the community board AND many of the business/large property owners are as well. Change is in the air! Read more here: City plans a new neighborhood in Mott Haven*|*Mott Haven Herald
Yeah that is the goal, to diversify the social classes so that it is more of a middle /working class enclave, with the amenities and housing the serve the population. The waterfront district and parkland look quite impressive also... The proposed Waterfront District at a glance*|*Mott Haven Herald And of course it will all be tied to the city! This is all seperate from the other huge developments going on in Melrose just a few blocks to the east....so the transformation of the Southern Bronx is going to be dramatic over the next 10 years.
Twist, the Bronx is not like the other 4 boroughs....we pride ourselves on INCLUSION, not EXCLUSION. The area is being redeveloped for everyone, current resident as well as the rest of NYC. What you see in the Bronx, and specifically the Southern Bronx, is a revitalization....and yes....Mr. Mott is happy....as are the residents and the city.
I'm glad to hear that the current residents will benefit from this as well. I look forward to seeing that and if it goes as you say, I pray that this will be the model for other low income areas of the city as well instead of the oversaturated gentrification we're seeing. I think if it goes as you say Sobroguy, then this will make all parties happy

Whoah.... since when was Queens all about "exclusion"? Brooklyn? Even Manhattan seems to be pretty welcoming of everybody, as there is a vast world of affordable housing, housing projects, and people of darker hues above 96th Street. Besides, wouldn't you say that Manhattan is more diverse in terms of race, ethnicity, and income than the Bronx? It's nice to tell people that they are welcome in the Bronx, but don't do it at the expense of the other boroughs.
