I grew up in Bensonhurst during the 50's and 60's. Spent some adult years during the 70's there as well. As I remember it Bensonhurst was pretty well split between the Italians and the Jews. Great place to grow up - Everybody got along great.
I have been in Bensonhurst / Bath Beach for the last 25 years, Italians are there but not as much, mostly the older ones have stayed behind. The the Russians came in back in the 1990's, but they rent and are very transient. Now the Asians are coming in more, but they are the ones that are buying the homes. They are nice enough so that;s a good thing. I like all the flowers and plants they put in front of the homes.
Hard to guess where the next big influx will come from. There are a dwindling number of places from which they might come. Europeans will always be trickling in, and maybe Africans will be next. Asians and Mexican/Central Americans are at the tail end of their domination of inmigrants for this generation.
As for Bensonhurst, it's 30% Italian, 35% Asian, 30% Russian/East European and 5% Hispanic in my estimation.
The Hispanic population in the area is closer to about 15%, rather than 5%. You're pretty close on the Asian population: It is about 30-35%.
Obviously, the Census doesn't distinguish between Italians and Eastern Europeans, but I would say that, out of the remaining 50-55%, it is about 20-25% Eastern European and 30% Italian.

There is no hanging out on corners or on stoops. Maybe the people that move from Bensonhurst moved to Staten Island but it is nothing like Bensonhurst was.
I've lived on Staten Island my whole life, walk many places and have hung out on countless corners and stoops, lol. True though, not many Italians around my way...

When I posted the question: Where are the Italians in NYC then? I got the answer on SI.

Lol. From what I hear the South side of Staten Island is an Italian-American Disney Land. I don't spend extensive amounts of time down there but I'd take whoever's word for it I suppose. I do end up in classes (at the College of SI) with a lot of people who possess Italian last names, it's just that none of them live around me. =/
