You got a good toss-up between these neighborhoods;
1. Pelham Parkway:
Pros
Shopping, Parkland, the Bronx Zoo, Great Transportation (Bx12 Select Bus Service and the 2 train), mixed housing stock (apartments near Pelham parkway and houses just outside of it)
Cons
Overcrowded schools on all levels in the area, teens hanging out after school, changing demographics, tough parking
2. Parkchester
Pros
Excellent shopping
Transportation (6 train, BxM6 express bus, Bx22 to Fordham, Cross Bronx Expressway)
One of the best catholic schools is in the area, St. Raymonds
Cons
Overcrowded schools
Congestion from the Cross Bronx spills over into Parkchester
Tough parking
Surrounding areas aren't so great
3. Van Cortlandt Village
Pros
Parkland nearby in Van Cortlandt Park
Excellent schools
So-so transportation (Bx1, 2, 10, and BxM3 express)
Cons
You must take a bus to the nearest subway line (whether the 1 or the 4)
Overcrowded and rowdy schools (with Clinton HS nearby)
Tough parking
A little bit too dark at night
4. Westchester Square
Pros
The 6 train is nearby
Cons
Infrequent buses (Bx4, 8, 14, 21, 31, 40, 42 have long waits)
Overdevelopment
Rising graffiti on walls
Declining shopping options (the best bet is to go to nearby Parkchester for shopping)
Rowdiness in Lehman HS spills over into Westchester Square during lunch and after school hours
