..it is boring and unfortuantely people judge you if you are 35 and not married..... sad but true! >>>

Just want to add, New Yorkers do this to! Please don't think it's all liberal here and no one judges anyone. They sure do. Look at the neighborhoods and what will you find? A lot of segregated areas. I have been in NYC my entire life, my oldest child is 21 so I'm alive awhile now....and I can tell you, there is a lot of hate! Oh yes, who hates Italians, Albanians, Chinese, Indians, Africans, Polish, Russian....I can go on and on.

Husband and I are city workers and stuck here for now. Please be careful of what you will be giving up to come to this city.

If I can answer any questions, please ask and I will be happy to.

I LOVE (seriously) that you are expected to tell people what's on your mind here instead of the meaningless "politeness" of the South. I had a cabbie tell me one day he wouldn't take me to my apt on the Upper West Side (I still don't quite get that one, but hey) so I told him to f himself and do his f'ing job. I gotta tell you, vulgar? Yes. Crude? You bet. But I didn't spend the rest of the day, angry, wishing I had said what was on my mind. In the South, I'd have been run over or shot at. Here? It's just the way things are done. I love it.

No one here is interested in the kind of day you're having, wants you to bless them when they sneeze, cares what you're doing as long as you stay out of their way, or gets violent over you speaking your mind. It's fantastic. I don't miss the "polite" crap in the South for a second. I've learned that NYers in general respect two things: be yourself and stay outta my way. I can live with those. Can you?
haha, I hate politeness. I'm a born and bred NYer, female. If you are a man, do not hold the door for me, do not open the cab door for me and do not pull out my chair for me. I am fully capable and willing to do it myself. This isn't 1950.

This thread is retarded and 2 years old. First of all there are ridiculous stereotypes all over this thread from both sides. One guy was talking about in the south you wait on the car in front of you to finish their conversation after the light turns green and don't honk. WTF i never seen or heard of that. I sure as hell honked at people if they were just sitting there like a dumb ass and have been honked at. Second, the only thing hardcore about NYC is the rent. People like to think that it's all rough and tough so they can feel special. The main rules are don't be an idiot and don't hold people up.
