Little Italy is looking to expand — in the Bronx. The Belmont neighborhood in the Bronx is famous for having its own Little Italy where many shops and restaurants have been run by the same Italian families for generations. But according to the Wall Street Journal, the neighborhood is now looking to social media and newspapers to re-position the area to attract new affluent clientele and residents.
This is good however like every pro their is a con. I hope it expands and keeps its true to earth little italy authenticity, unlike little Italy in Manhattan which sold its soul.
God, these real estate hucksters will try anything.
(Reminds me of Jersey City Heights back in the real estate boom. Two artists moved in so they put up plaques all over advertising ART DISTRICT.
The two artists moved out and it went back to being little San Juan. I wonder what they did with the silly plaques.)
the Bronx Beer Hall, which drew hundreds of people for its opening on Feb. 1. Consider it a cross-cultural experiment in a neighborhood of entrenched ethnicity: two brothers whose family hails from Puerto Rico selling craft beer made in the Bronx in the heart of its Little Italy.
I seriously feel the Belmont section of the Bronx, Arthur Ave in particular, would make a great bar district. There are already a couple, but it needs more.
They have to offer more variety than the usual trattoria stuff. Some authentic Tuscan, Venetian, Milanese and Calabrian cuisine should make the place more interesting.
