Fonda is not a city, but a town. I think you need to research the censuses and find the family; I use Ancestry ( I pay). The US censuses are every 10 years and the ones to 1930 are available. They open - I think - 75 years after they were taken. They go back to the decade the town was formed. When you find the family, generally a town historian will help you out; every thown in the US has a historian ( you can ask the Dept. of History & Archives who it is or look on Rootsweb). If you can, check the NY State censuses - they are on the 5 years: 1855, 1865, 1875, etc. They are at the NY StateLibrary in Albany. if you have a Mormon Church near you, they might have a Family History Center; that library is open to all and you can reszearch and if you find files, they order them for you. Good luck.

Fonda is neither a city nor a town.

Fonda is a village (incorporated in 1850) in the Town of Mohawk, Montgomery County.

Thanks, Walter. I stand corrected. I was thinking of town in terms of "small"; it is not a city in temrs of "large"... I was being generic.
