I'm one as well. I never bothered to speak up about because there was never a thread or separate forum for it. i figured there weren't many of us.
But since we are already on the topic of the Hudson Valley....what do some of you think about the casinos that may impact our county?
I was mulling this over in my head, just this very morning. I think the casino idea is genius, and I do see the point of having them preferably in the Catskills. That being said, it may be a smooth move to place one somewhere in Orange County. If they REALLY want to find a spot in Harriman, then the DOT better get a move on the I-86/17/Thruway interchange project. I genuinely feel for the residents of Woodbury who have to suffer the traffic catastrophe that is Woodbury Common.
I would love to see a "Hudson Valley/Catskills" thread which could include Putnam, Dutchess, Columbia, Orange, Ulster and Delaware Counties. Prehaps it called be called MID-STATE since these areas don't really fit with Downstate and some will say these counties are not upstate either. What do you think?
I think that is a great idea; long overdue. Through the years I've seen enough discussions/questions to merit this.
I don't want any casinos here. For two reasons off the top of my head.
#1 with casinos in NJ, PA, CT, etc. I think the market is already over-saturated with the industry. There have been at least 3-5 casinos that have closed or will close this year alone. In addition, in NJ you can gamble online in your own home. No need to drive to the HV.
#2. Just look at Atlantic City, it is a dump. I love the HV and don't want it to deteriorate to that level. The people of the Hudson valley are already fighting a war to keep their quality of life with the Hasids....we don't need another battlefront.
