I am considering a relocation back to work in NYC (I have lived there before). I would only need to be in the NYC office 3 times per week, so we are looking at Beacon as a possible landing spot.
The job would initially be 100% remote until the NYC office re-opens. Because of the pandemic, I cannot find the "regular" metro north schedule anywhere. I believe there are 75-78 minute routes to and from Beacon from Grand Central. Can anyone confirm that and/or let me know when those occur?
Also, we have two small children (7 and 5) and would be attending Beacon schools. Any advice on that? Seems like the schools have improved greatly over the last few years.
Any advice on what part of town to live in? Would like to be walkable to Main Street, but not necessarily the train station given its location.
I would say given where you are now, Wappingers Falls or Arlington would be bigger suburban SD’s with some walkability(village of Wappingers Falls and Arlington(CDP)).
For a number of reasons. I will need to get into the office in NYC (whenever that reopens) only 2-3 times per week, so I am okay with a longer commute. My kids play youth hockey and it is close to Ice Time in Newburgh. It is close to family. We love the walkability of the downtown area in Beacon. Housing costs are much cheaper than those commuter towns closer to the city. Express train from Beacon makes it much more desirable than Wappingers. Is that enough?

I thought you were the Syracuse expert! Now you're the Hudson Valley expert too?! Haha.
Yes, the entire reason we are considering this is because of Elijah Hughes. Haha.
I am okay with some grit. I taught science in the Bronx. I am a firm believer that the kids and the parents have as much impact on school experience as teachers. But I don't want my kids to be anywhere that is not safe and doesn't have outlets for accelerated/honors programs. I too have seen and heard about recent improvements in the Beacon school district and that's why I'd like to hear from some people who may have experienced that first hand.

I meant in terms of someone that actually lives there to offer a perspective.
All the most woke lefties from NYC hightailed it out of there once the crime hit. Many moved to Beacon. I feel bad for the people of Beacon, tbh, because they never asked for this. Elect people who destroy the city, and then hightail it out of there when the store down the block gets looted.
Elect people in Beacon who have preferred pronouns and see how long that area lasts. Sucks for the old timers who just wanted a nice, low cost place to live.
