Too bad so sad Cuomo. Very few people like your dad whose slogan, "Vote for Cuomo not the homo" against Ed Koch was in poor taste even during the 1980s. Also it doesn't help that under Mario Cuomo, companies like IBM and GE dumped tons of toxins into the Hudson River.

I was looking for this thread in the Westchester forum. Literally just posted how I couldn't find it. Lol
What’s great is they actually missed a sign or 2. There are still a few that say Tappan Zee.
That’ll save us a couple of tax bucks when they change the name back.
Let's be real. This has NOTHING to do with Mario. This is all about canceling Andrew.
He did nothing for me, but as NY Governor, Mario was well liked, it isn't inappropriate for the bridge to be named after him.
Who liked him? NYC liberals that wanted $$$$$$$$$$, and old school Italians. They are very loyal. I did some research about how he talked to the people at the time. Sucked them right in.
Name the $6 billion TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE after him? How about the $5 (at the time) billion Shoreham nuke plant that he allowed to be completely built, but wouldn't allow to operate? There's $11 billion wasted on this guy. Andrew blew over $2.5 billion in Buffalo. That got 1100 questionable, unstable jobs. Glad they are both gone!
Mario was a turd as well. Don’t listen to the revisionist theorists that paint him in kind light.
My grandfather was a lifelong loyal democrat.
If he had the chance, I think he woulda beat the daylights outa ole Mario.

It was shoved onto the bridge by Andrew as a vanity thing. There was no real discourse, it just got cursorily pushed through the legislature, and the new name had a whopping 14% popularity among residents in Westchester and Rockland, people who voted for Mario in spades, at that.
I wouldn't complain if there was a rule that a figure has to be dead for 50 years before naming any public institutions and infrastructure after them.
^^ Exactly. He was just an average politician. Naming public infrastructure after such recently deceased is silly.
