Upstate NY makes up the vast majority of the state and can vary like all states. Same for the cities as well. For instance, with Schenectady, Hamilton Hill and say the Union Street corridor are different types of areas in the city.
Upstate is an enormous region that encompasses the vast majority of New York State. There are some blighted, seedy spots found in urban and rural settings, but there are some very affluent parts as well. Most of Upstate can probably be characterized as middle of the road or even fairly nice. I would just say overall it is far more “rundown” than it is “ghetto.”
So from and including Westchester, and going north and west
No not the heavenly elitist Westchester! How dare you!
Nah the rest of Upstate! It’s all ghettos or knuckle dragging redneck Trump supporters! It’s all Flyover country.

I was starting to wonder. I didn't think that sounded like you. In fact, it is the democrat controlled and dominated cites that are "lacking self esteem", and that's they way they like it. Keep 'em miserable, and promise whatever it takes to get elected and re-elected. Who care's about the state of things. It's some else's fault, so why do anything myself.
