We are new to Poughkeepsie. Considering a foreclosed house in the city. Great deal (though it needs a lot of work). Looking for contractors.. hint hint.
Here's my question: How do I get my kids into another school district? I understand the schools are awful. Where is a nearby school district that is good and how do we get into it?
Thanks.
You can't get into the neighboring districts unless you are a resident of that district. Due to overcrowding, Arlington, Hyde Park, Wappingers and Spackenkill no longer take tuition students. If you use a false address, you risk having to pay the full tuition (cost per student) for the other district.
There are many parochial schools in the area with reasonable tuition rates. Holy Trinity, St. Martin DePorres, St. Peter's. St. Augustine's is across the river in Highland. I think the reason there are so many porochial schools left in this area is due to how bad the city schools are.
