Yes, it is. It's a small city that's got a "small town America" flavor to it. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=johnst...,358.2,,0,4.72

I live in the Johnstown area. It can be quite hecktick at times. Lots of traffic, some vandalism, But other than that the town is great. We have a few small "gangs" that aren't even gangs. They would like to be. Need anymore info let me know.

Smile johnstown, ny

Dear victorian Lady_1900,
Just happened to come across your note in the forum about the house and questions about Johnstown.
Interestingly, my husband and I moved from Jacksonville, FL, in 12/06 to Gloversville with the intention of buying in Johnstown--I had a job waiting for me there. We were not as crazy about Gloversville as we were Johnstown, but overall, we loved the area. The 1st winter we had a blizzard with 33" of snow! We had lived in upstate NY for 14 years prior to living in FL for 20 years, so we were not unprepared.
The people are really nice, but the area is depressed. There is a WalMart in Gloversville, but Amsterdam--15 minutes away-- has a Super WalMart, Home Depot, Lowes and Target. Otherwise, it's Schenectady, Rotterdam, Saratoga Springs, or Albany. It depends on what your needs are whether it's convenient or a problem. We found it no problem.
Feel free to ask anything else--will be glad to help.
