My family and I will be visiting New York sometime between July 26- August 16th and are looking for camp for our two kids to go to for a week. We want to have a week with whole family and then a week with just my husband and I while the kids are at camp. Anyone have suggestions? They love drama, singing, arts, swimming ages will be 11 and 13. We are Unitarian Universalist and would prefer no overtly religious camps unless UU. Are there some good YMCA's that offer overnight camps in the area? I must be able to check the camps out.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Tam

I am assuming you mean NY City, If you do a Google search for NY City summer camps you will get a hefty return and can determine what you like. There are many programs/camps within 2 hours of the city.

I'm sending mine to a YMCA camp that is run up in the Berkshires of Mass. I went there as a child myself. They've spent the last 3 years totally rebuilding the whole camp and the place will be awesome. It's website is-http://www.cdymca.org/sn/location/WaWaSegowea.aspx/ It used to be owned by the Poughkeepsie YMCA-but that closed due to financial reasons. The Capital District YMCA bought it out and has really done a great job of getting it ready for campers again. I highly recommend the place.

I'm not sure exactly where in NY state you are looking; but Camp Cory in the fingerlakes is run by the Rochester YMCA and is one of the oldest camps in the world with a great reputation. It's right on Keuka Lake a little over an hour south of Rochester.
