it's all cultural, isn't it? In some cultures people never kiss or hug or shake hands, some do nothing else...men kiss in Italy, in Belgium they would all be considered gay...

Quite honestly i think it to be very wierd to do that with family members. For insance i was with my girl friend and her family, we were wishing her good bye before she got on the bus to college. So she comes walking up to me and so the norm i give her a hug and a quick peck on the lips goodbye. Then she goes over to her dad and he gives her a hug and goes to kiss her good bye and he kissed her on the lips! At first i didnt panic cause i thougt her dad missed or some thing. So i bring the issue up later and she tells me thats how she does it in her family.... how weird is that?!?!?! Her dad did the same thing i did!!!! I accidentaly did it one time to my mom, cause i went to go kiss her good bye and she turned to look at me so it landed on her lips. WHACK!!!! My mom backhanded the **** out of me! So thats way to weird for me.....

I hate the custom of kissing we have here, yuck. I hated it when I was a child, and I still hate it.
It grosses me out. blech !!

I hate having to kiss anyone hello, can't we just bow???, maybe nod...and no, I don't want to shake your hand either, in fact, I just don't want any body contact what so ever at all. i don;t want to even touch anyone.

again, can't we just bow?

You guys crack me up. A hug and a peck on the lips greeting and saying goodbye with relatives is not a big deal. Now if you see open mouth and tongues then, yeah, that would be weird and gross.

As with most things - it is just fine if the people engaging in it are fine with it - it is not fine if the people engaging in it are not fine with it.

And it is also NOT fine if people (ok / not ok) with it judge those that are (not ok / ok) with it as somehow being "in the wrong".

It is not inappropriate. It is just not for you. So do not do it.

Maybe in certain cultures, but I don't think it's appropriate for Western culture/US culture. It's bizarre to me.

I grew up kissing both parents on the lips until I reached a certain reach (pre-puberty probably). Then is switched to cheek-kisses.

I will kiss my baby son on the lips as long as it feels right or he refuses it.
